Marking & Layout tools

Scribe

Used to scratch fine lines into metal or plastic surfaces for layout work.

Tip: Best used with a straightedge or square for precision.

Combination Square

A multipurpose measuring and layout tool used to:

  • Check 90° and 45°angles
  • Measure depths and short distances
  • Scribe lines parallel to edges using its built-in ruler

Center Punch

Creates a small dimple to guide drill bits and prevent slipping. This is done by holding it straight on the area you want dented, and pressing down.

Deburring Tool

Removes sharp edges and burrs after cutting metal and plastic.

Cutting Tools

X-Acto Knives

Used for precision trimming of tape, decals, soft plastics, and foils.

  • Keep the cap on/keep blade in when not in use
  • Replace dull blades using pliers to avoid cuts

Tin Snips

Used to cut sheet metal

Red: Left cuts | Green: Right cuts | Yellow: Straight cuts

Hand Saws

  • Use proper blade for material
  • Avoid twisting during cuts

Dremel Rotary Tool

Handheld tool with attachments for cutting, sanding, grinding, polishing.

  • Requires training and eye protection
  • Clamp small parts before use

Fastening & Adjustment Tools

Allen Keys

For tightening or loosening hex-socket fasteners.

  • Available in metric and SAE sizes
  • Use full-depth engagement to avoid stripping

Pliers

Includes:

  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Slip-joint pliers

Do not substitute pliers for wrenches on bolts.

Surface Preparation & Finishing

Scotch-Brite Pads

Nonwoven abrasive pads for cleaning, deburring, and blending.

  • Used dry or wet
  • Wear gloves to avoid fiber irritation

Sandpaper

Used for smoothing or prepping surfaces.

  • Coarse to fine grit available (60–400+)

Files

Used to round sharp edges, debur surfaces, and smooth sharp corners

  • Come in a range of grits/abrasiveness
  • Work in one direction only (push not pull)
